Old Bexley & Sidcup is one of three parliamentary constituencies within the London Borough of Bexley. Derek Conway was elected the MP in 2001, succeeding Rt Hon Sir Edward Heath KG, who was Prime Minister from 1970-4. The constituency comprises the town of Sidcup and the communities of Bexley Village, Blendon & Penhill, Blackfen & Lamorbey, Welling, East Wickham and Foots Cray.
It is largely surburban with few major employers other than CocaCola which operates a large manufacturing and distribution site in Foots Cray. The local State and private schools are well regarded and there are three academically selective Grammar Schools in the constituency.
